R&D expenditures in Iceland were 2.08% of GDP in 2016, which is a decrease from 2015 when they were 2.17%. Eurostat has recently released preliminary figures on R&D expenditures in Europe, which show a similar decline in most other Nordic countries, with R&D expenditures going down from 2.9% to 2.75% in Finland, from 2.96% to 2.87% in Denmark and a little less in Sweden,  from 3.27% to 3.25%. In Norway R&D expenditures increased from 1.93% to 2.04% of GDP between years. Iceland remains above the EU average, which is 2.03% of GDP, same as in 2015.
