The population of Iceland at the end of the 2nd quarter 2013 was 323,810, 162,400 males and 161,410 females. The population increased by 880 from the previous quarter. Foreign citizens were 21,990 by the end of the 2nd quarter 2013. Inhabitants of the capital region were 207,120.
A total of 1,100 children were born in the 2nd quarter and 500 persons died. Net migration was 270 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was 120 and 150 for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated.
Norway was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens with 240 persons emigrating in the quarter. Of the 620 Icelandic citizens who emigrated, 410 went to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The largest group of the 690 foreign citizens who emigrated went to Poland (160).
Immigrants of Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, 540 out of 740, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, 300 out of 840. Spain came second with 45 immigrants.
