STATISTICS ENERGY 17 SEPTEMBER 2025

Household energy consumption has been stable but slowly increasing over the past six years. The average energy consumption has been equivalent to 655 thousand tonnes of oil per year (ktoe). Most of the energy used by households comes from district heating (60%), followed by fossil fuels (23%) and electricity (13%).

If district heating, electricity and biofuels can be assumed to be from renewable energy, the proportion of this renewable energy was between 70 and 77% of energy between 2014 and 2023. There is little direct noticeable change in these figures despite the increase in the number of electric cars, but in general, oil consumption has decreased since 2019.
