In 2024, revenue from environmental and resource related taxes amounted to 78.9 billion ISK, an increase of 4% compared with 2023. For comparison, revenue increased by 10% between 2022 and 2023 and by 23% between 2021 and 2022. Since 2014, households have accounted for between 47% and 55% of revenue from these taxes.
Energy taxes accounted for 33% of environmental and resource related tax revenue in 2024. On average, their share has ranged between 40% and 50%. Energy taxes include, among other things, excise duties on petroleum products and taxes on the supply of electricity. Transport taxes accounted for 32% of environmental and resource related tax revenue in 2024. On average, they represent between 20% and 30% of revenue from these taxes.
