The deficit of balance of trade in goods and services in the final quarter of 2018, as published in National Accounts and Balance of Payments, was 3,500 million ISK according to preliminary figures, compared with a surplus of 14,200 million ISK in the fourth quarter of 2017. The deficit of converted trade in goods was 37,000 million ISK while the surplus of balance of trade in services was 33,400 million ISK, in the fourth quarter of 2018. Total exports of goods and services for the fourth quarter of 2018 were 329,500 million ISK while total imports of goods and services were 333,000 million ISK.

Preliminary figures for the year 2018 show a surplus of balance of trade in goods and services of 86,500 million ISK compared to 106,800 million ISK in 2017. Total exports of goods and services for 2018 were 1,323,400 million ISK while total imports of goods and services were 1,236,800 million ISK.

Parallel to this publication, Statistics Iceland updates data for monthly trade in goods and services for 2018. Previously, data for January-November of 2018 has been published. In this publication, December has been added. In December, total exports of trade in goods and services are estimated 103,500 million ISK and total imports of trade in goods and services are estimated 104,100 million ISK. The deficit of balance of trade in goods and services is therefore estimated 500 million ISK in December 2018.

These figures are published in the Transition tables on Statistic Iceland’s website, which harmonizes the standards for trade in goods and balance of payment.
