NEWS RELEASE EXTERNAL TRADE 23 MAY 2007

Statistics Iceland publishes now an issue in the Statistical Series on External Trade for the year 2006. Goods exported from Iceland amounted to 242,700 million ISK and goods imported into Iceland amounted to 401,200 million ISK fob, 432,100 million ISK cif. The import figures are higher than previously published figures for the year 2006 due to information of imports reveived after publication of the 2006 figures. Thus there was a trade deficit of 158,500 million ISK. Exports increased by 24.9% at current prices while imports increased by 37.7%. Marine products constituted 51% of all exports and manufacturing products 38%, but the largest import categories were industrial supplies, capital goods and transport equipments. Largest trading countries were the Netherlands in exports and the United States in imports and EEA was the most important market area in both exports and imports.
