NEWS RELEASE EXTERNAL TRADE 09 MAY 2008

Statistics Iceland publishes now an issue in the Statistical Series on External Trade for the year 2007. Goods exported from Iceland amounted to 305,100 million ISK and goods imported into Iceland amounted to 395,200 million ISK fob, 427,400 million ISK cif. Thus there was a trade deficit of 90,100 million ISK. Exports increased by 25.7% at current prices while imports decreased by 1.1%. Marine products constituted 41.8% of all exports and manufacturing products 38.9%, but the largest import categories were industrial supplies, capital goods and transport equipments. Largest trading countries were the Netherlands in exports and the United States in imports and EEA was the most important market area in both exports and imports.

Statistics Iceland now also releases on its website, detailed tables by countries and commodities in 2007. Tables on external trade  by customs tariff numbers, which has normally been published on the web with this issue, are delayed and will be published 16 May on the website. Monthly data by customs tariff numbers by countries will be published for the years 2006, 2007 and January-March 2008.
