NEWS RELEASE EXTERNAL TRADE 05 NOVEMBER 2018

Statistics Iceland publishes for the first time monthly data on balance of goods and services. Data on monthly trade in services for the first six months of 2018 has been published parallel to the quarterly publications in 2018. In today’s release Statistics Iceland estimates monthly data for July and August 2018 for both trade in goods in BOP* and trade in services.

Exported goods in BOP* is estimated 51,400 million ISK in July and 51,700 million ISK in August. Imported goods in BOP* is estimated 62,800 million ISK in July and 67,600 million ISK in August. Hence, a deficit of balance of trade in goods in BOP* is estimated 11,500 million ISK in July and 15,800 million ISK in August.

Exports of services are estimated 83,600 million ISK in July and 82,400 million ISK in August. Imports of services are estimated 46,100 million ISK in July and 44,600 million ISK in August. Hence, the surplus of balance of trade in services is estimated 37,400 million ISK in July and 37,800 million ISK in August.

Total exports of trade in goods and services are therefore estimated 134,900 million ISK in July and 134,100 million ISK in August. Total imports of trade in goods and services are estimated 109,000 million ISK in July and 112,200 million ISK in August. The surplus of balance of trade in goods and services is estimated 25,900 million ISK in July and 21,900 million ISK in August.

The balance of trade in goods and services for September will be published parallel to the publication of the third quarter of trade in services on 30 November 2018. The date of the publication for trade in goods and services for October will be placed on the release calendar minimum 10 days prior to the publication according to Statistics Iceland´s rules on statistical releases.
