NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 20 JUNE 2013

Statistics Iceland has released a new issue of Statistical Series in the topical category of fisheries. This issue presents export and export production of marine products.

In 2012 the export production of marine products amounted to ISK 277 billion and increased in value by 7.9% from previous year, 5.4% at constant prices. Export of marine products amounted to 749 thousand tonnes and the total value amounted to ISK 269 billions. The export increased in quantity by 11.3%, and in value by 6.8%. Frozen products generated 53% of the value of ex-ported marine products, but the highest export revenues were from whole frozen mackerel. Europe is the most important market area for Icelandic marine products and in 2012 the export value for this category of products to Europe amounted to 78,7% of the export value.
