NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 14 AUGUST 2015

Statistics Iceland has released a new issue of Statistical Series  in the topical category of fisheries. This issue presents catch, value and processing of catch 2014.

The total catch of Icelandic fishing vessels in 2014 was 1077 thousand tonnes which is 286 thousand tonnes less than in 2013. The value of the catch amounted to 136 billion ISK and decreased by 11% from the previous year. The largest part of the catch was processed in the eastern part of the country, mainly pelagic species. The highest regional share of the demersal catch, 19,1% was processed in the capital area, mainly in Reykjavík. The main processing method for cod was freezing in land-based factories. Total value of by-products amounted to 5 billion in 2014. Value of by-products is not included in the total value of catch.
