The total fish catch of Icelandic vessels in April was 126 thousand tonnes, 11% more than in April 2022. Demersal catch was nearly 35 thousand tonnes, a decrease by 24%. Of demersal species, the cod catch was nearly 18 thousand tonnes. Pelgic catch, which was nearly all blue whiting, was just above 88 thousand tonnes in April which is 36% more catch than in April 2022.
In the 12 month period from May 2022 to April 2023 the overall catch was 1,382 thousand tonnes which is 7% less in the same period one year earlier.
