Total catch landed in May 2026 was nearly 62 thousand tonnes, 9% less than in May 2025. The demersal catch was nearly 40 thousand tonnes, representing a 6% decrease compared with May 2025. The pelagic catch, which, like last year, was mostly blue whiting, was nearly 19 thousand tonnes, a 16% decrease compared to May 2025.
In the 12-month period, from June 2025 to May 2026, the total catch was 1,119 thousand tonnes, a 17% increase from the preceding 12-month period. There was a 37% increase in the pelagic catch, largely driven by capelin while the demersal catch decreased by 6% between periods. The flatfish catch decreased by 9% between periods.
