The fish catch of Icelandic vessels in October 2019 was 91.7 thousand tonnes which is a 19% decrease from October last year. Demersal catch was 39 thousand tonnes and decreased by 16%, thereof cod was 24 thousand tonnes. Pelagic catch was 50 thousand tonnes which is 22% less than in October last year. Of this herring was about 49 thousand tonnes. Flatfish catch was nearly 1,700 tonnes and shellfish catch was 1,000 tonnes.

The total catch in the 12 month period decreased by 15%, from 1,252 thousand tonnes in the period from November 2017 to October 2018 to 1,070 thousand tonnes in the period from November 2018 to October 2019. During this same period there was also a reduction in catch of flatfish and shellfish.

The value index for October 2019 was 24.4% lower than in October 2018.
