NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 15 SEPTEMBER 2016

The total catch of Icelandic vessels in August 2016 was just over 119 thousand tonnes which is 4% increase from August 2015. Demersal catch was just over 33 thousand tonnes an increase by 28%, cod catch was 17 thousand tonnes in August, an increase of 41% compared to August 2015. Flatfish catch increased by 25% and shellfish catch by 28% compared to August 2015 while pelagic catch decreased by 4%.
In the 12 month period from September 2015 to August 2016 the total catch has decreased by 294 thousand tonnes, which is a 22% decrease, mostly due to less pelagic catch. The value index in August is 2.6% higher than in August 2015.
