The total fish catch of Icelandic vessels was close to 95 thousand tonnes in July 2015, an increase of 3,500 tonnes compared with July 2014. Total demersal catch increased by 8.9% compared with July 2014. Flatfish catch increased by more than 1,500 tonnes, mostly due to increase in greenland halibut, which more than doubled compared with July 2014. Pelagic catch was nearly constant compared with July 2014. Norway lobster catch was 18% less than in July 2014 but shrimp catch increased by 22%.
At constant prices, the volume of catch increased by 4.2% in July 2015 compared with July 2014.
In the last 12 months the total catch has increased by nearly 251 thousand tonnes, which is a 23.3% increase. This is mostly due to pelagic catch, which increased by roughly 274 thousand tonnes between periods.
