NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 15 JUNE 2016

The total catch of Icelandic vessels was roughly 106 thousand tonnes in May 2016 which is 26% less than in May last year. Pelagic catch decreased by 41% from 90 thousand tonnes to 58 thousand tonnes. Demersal catch increased by 8%, from 40 thousand tonnes to 43 thousand tonnes, of which cod catch incresed by 20%. The total catch in the 12 month period from June 2015 to May 2016 has decreased by 214 thousand tonnes compared to the same period in the previous year, which is mostly due to less pelagic catch. The value index for May has increased by 5.5% compared to May 2015.
