NEWS RELEASE FISHERIES 15 NOVEMBER 2017

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in October was 114,258 tonnes, which is a 40% increase from October 2016. The increase is mostly due to more herring catch, nearly 59 thousand tonnes compared with just over 32 thousand tonnes in October last year. Demersal catch was over 42 thousand tonnes, an increase of 5%, mostly due to more redfish catch. Flatfish catch was 1,816 tonnes which is 12% more than in October 2016. Shellfish catch was 1,153 tonnes compared with 716 tonnes last year.

Total catch in the 12 month period from November 2016 to October 2017 was 1,166 thousand tonnes, an increse of 8% compared with the same period a year earlier.

The price value index was 16.5% higher than in October 2016.
