The value of catch by Icelandic vessels was 11.9 billion ISK in May 2016 which is more than a 2 billion decrease compared with May 2015. Value of demersal catch was just over 8.4 billion in May, a decrease by 8.3% from previous year. Value of pelagic catch, which was mainly blue whiting, was nearly 1.7 billion ISK, a decrease of 30% compared with May 2015. Value of flatfish catch was 1.25 billion ISK in May which is 27% less than in May 2015 and the value of shellfish was just over 600 million compared with 700 million in May last year.
Total value of catch in the 12 month period from June 2015 to May 2016 was 142 billion ISK which is a decrease by 5.6% compared with the same period one year earlier. In that period the value of demersal catch has increased by 3.2% and flatfish catch by 35.5%, while the value of pelagic catch has decreased by 34.5%.
