The world catch amounted to 94.6 million tonnes in 2011 which is an increase from previous year by 4.6 million tonnes. The greatest volume came from the Pacific Ocean and the Peruvian anchovy was the largest species. Of the continents, Asia had the biggest part in the world catch, next came America and then Europe. The biggest fishing nation in 2011 was China, but Norway, that was the biggest fishing nation in Europe, ranked number 11 on the world list. Iceland, that was the second largest fishing nation in Europe, ranked number 18 on the world list in 2011, one place higher than previous year.
