In 2007, 647 individuals where granted Icelandic citizenship, the lowest number since 2003. Until 2006 there was an annual increase in applications for citizenship, with the most increase between 2003 and 2004. The peak was reached in 2006, when 844 individuals were granted Icelandic citizenship. Thus the number of citizenship granting decreased by 197 in the year 2007.
Most individuals who gained Icelandic citizenship in the year 2007 came from Poland, as in previous years, although the number of Polish individuals who were granted citizenship decreased from 222 in 2006 to 162 in 2007. The second largest group came from the Philippines, or 69 individuals, a decrease from the previous year when they were 105. In 2007, 63 people from states within the borders of former Yugoslavia gained Icelandic citizenship, most of whom came from Serbia (33) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (24).
