NEWS RELEASE INHABITANTS 24 JULY 2014

The population of Iceland at the end of the 2nd quarter 2014 was 327,050, 164,130 males and 162,920 females. The population increased by 700 from the previous quarter. Foreign citizens were 23,080 by the end of the 2nd quarter 2014. Inhabitants of the capital region were 209,680.
 
A total of 1,050 children were born in the 2nd quarter and 480 persons died. Net migration was 130 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was 10, and 130 for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated.


 
Norway was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens with 190 persons emigrating in the quarter. Of the 650 Icelandic citizens who emigrated, 430 went to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The largest group of the 680 foreign citizens who emigrated went to Poland (140).
 
Immigrants of Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, 430 out of 660, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, 270 out of 800. Spain came second with 45 immigrants.
