The population of Iceland at the end of the second quarter 2026 was 396,500, 203,080 males, 193,180 females and non-binary/other were 230. The population increased by 1,450 from the previous quarter. Inhabitants of the Capital region were 253,230 and 143,270 lived in other regions.
A total of 1,130 children were born in the second quarter and 590 persons died. Net migration was 930 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was 240, and 700 for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated. Foreign citizens were 71,130, or 17.9% of the total population of Iceland by the end of the second quarter 2026.
