The population of Iceland at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2015 was 330,610, 166,170 males and 164,440 females. The population increased by 870 from the previous quarter. Foreign citizens were 25,090 by the end of the 2nd quarter 2015. Inhabitants of the capital region were 212,120.
A total of 1,050 children were born in the 2nd quarter and 540 persons died. Net migration was 350 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was negative by 120 and positive by 470 for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated.
Norway was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens with 170 persons emigrating in the quarter. Of the 680 Icelandic citizens who emigrated, 480 went to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The largest group of the 570 foreign citizens who emigrated went to Poland (140).
Immigrants of Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, 360 out of 550, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, 340 out of 1,050. Lithuania came second with 60 immigrants.
