The population of Iceland at the end of the fourth quarter 2022 was 387,800, 199,840 males, 187,840 females and non-binary/other were 130. The population increased by 2,570 from the previous quarter. Inhabitants of the Capital region were 247,590 and 140,210 lived in others regions.

A total of 1,040 children were born in the 4th quarter and 650 persons died. Net migration was 2,120 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was -60, and 2,170 for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated.

Denmark was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens with 110 persons emigrating in the quarter. Of the 430 Icelandic citizens who emigrated, 230 went to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The largest group of the 1,150 foreign citizens who emigrated went to Poland (340).

Immigrants of Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, 240 out of 380, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, 720 out of 3,320. Ukraine came second with 580 immigrants. Foreign citizens were 65,090, or 16.8% of the total population in Iceland by the end of the fourth quarter 2022.

The National Register of Persons is used to calculate the population.
