In 2023, a detailed European assessment of the activities of Statistics Iceland was carried out, which evaluated the extent to which the principles of the European Statistics Code of Practice were fulfilled by Statistics Iceland and other producers of official European statistics in Iceland. Such assessments are carried out regularly within the European Statistical System (ESS).
The results of the assessment were presented in a report published by Statistics Iceland on its website in December 2023. A reform plan, based on the results of the assessment, has now been approved, both by Statistics Iceland and by Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office. The reforms are based on the 17 suggestions presented in the results of the assessment and are divided into sub-categories with timed targets.
Statistics Iceland has already began preparing and implementing the reforms set out in the reform plan. That work will continue in the coming years. Statistics Iceland benefits from cooperation with Eurostat when it comes to working on the reforms and maintaining the timetable that has been set.
