NEWS RELEASE NATIONAL ACCOUNTS 16 APRIL 2007

Statistics Iceland releases now a new issue in its Statistical Series. The disposable income of the household sector is now published for the first time, for the years 1994-2005, following the national accounts definitions.

The households’ total income rose by 183% over this period. The total property expenditure and the current transfers paid by households increased by 256%. The disposable income of households increased by 149%, or on average by 9% per year. The purchasing power of disposable income per capita has increased by 56% over this period, or on average by 4.2% per year.

Subtracting households’ final consumption expenditure from the disposable income of the household sector gives households net saving, which was negative for every year during the period 1997 to 2005. The financing of household final consumption is further analysed in Table 3 in the Statistical Series.
