The producer price index (PPI) in January 2008 was 121.9 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 2.0% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 135.2 points which is 3.1% higher than in December (effect on the index 1.1%), and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 131.3 points, 0.8% lower (-0.2%). The PPI for food products was 1.4% higher than in December (0.2%) while the PPI for other manufactured products increased 3.3% (0.9%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 2.9% higher than in the previous month
(1.1%) while the index for exported products increased 1.5% (0.9%).
From January 2007, the PPI has decreased 3.1%, the PPI for fish products has increased 3.4% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has fallen 16.8%. The PPI for food products rose 4.3% in the same period.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in January 2008 was 3.9% higher than in the preceding month and 0.9% higher than in January 2007.
