The producer price index (PPI) in March 2008 was 137.2 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 9.2% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 157.0 points which is 12.6% higher than in February (effect on the index 4.4%), and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 168.1 points, 20.8% higher (4.6%). The PPI for food products was 1.0% higher than in February (0.2%) while the PPI for other manufactured products decreased 0.1% (0.0%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 0.9% lower than in the previous month (-0.2%) while the index for exported products increased 15.1% (9.4%).
From March 2007, the PPI has increased 12.5%, the PPI for fish products has increased 24.8% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has risen 10.3%. The PPI for food products rose 5.6% in the same period.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in March 2008 was 12.4% higher than in the preceding month and 21.2% higher than in March 2007.
