The producer price index (PPI) in May 2008 was 147.5 points (4th quarter 2005 = 100), 1.1% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 161.4 points which is 0.4% lower than in April (effect on the index -0.1%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 188.6 points, 0.4% higher (0.1%). The PPI for food products was 1.4% higher than in April (0.2%). The PPI for other manufactured products increased 3.7% (1.0%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 2.5% higher than in the previous month (0.9%) while the index for exported products increased 0.4% (0.2%).
From May 2007, the PPI has increased 24.7%, the PPI for fish products has increased 33.4% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has risen 29.9%. The PPI for food products rose 13.7% in the same period.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in May 2008 was 0.6% higher than in the preceding month and 32.5% higher than in May 2007.
