NEWS RELEASE QUALITY OF LIFE 10 DECEMBER 2008

 Statistics Iceland has released a new issue of the Statistical Series, containing results from the continuous household expenditure survey (HES) 2005-2007. The results are broken down by type of household, residence, quartiles of disposable income and quartiles of total expenditures. The results are compared with the results from the 2004-2006 household expenditure survey.

The average household expenditure in 2005-2007 has increased 7.7% from 2004–2006 and was about 396 thousand ISK per month or 165 thousand per person. The average household size decreases, it comprices 2.40 individuals compared with 2.47 for the years 2004–2006, thus the expenditure per individual has increased by 10.7%.

The average household disposable income is approximately 420 thousand ISK per month, nearly 175 thousand ISK per individual. Household disposable income is for most groups higher than their expenditures but the consumption expenditures amounts on the average to 94% of disposable income.

The sample size was 3,522 households whereof 1,603 participated, thus the response rate was about 45%.
