Overnight stays in hotels were similar between years
In April 2009, overnight stays in hotels were 92,100 compared with 91,800 in April 2008. Overnight stays in the summerized region Southwest, West and Westfjords increased by 10% and in the Capital region by 3%. In other regions overnight stays decreased compared with April 2008.

The number of overnight stays of foreigners in April increased by 13% and decreased by 24% of Icelanders compared with April 2008.


Overnight stays in hotels for the first four months of 2009 decreased between years
For the first four months of 2009 the number of overnight stays was 304,100 and decreased by 2% between years. Overnight stays decreased in all regions except in the South region and in the North region.

For the first four months of 2009 the number of overnight stays of foreigners increased by 5% compared with same period 2008, while the number of overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 17%.


The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
