Overnight stays decreased by 3%
In December 2010, the total number of overnight stays in hotels was 54,000 while at the same time in 2009 it was 56,000. The total number of overnight stays decreased in the Capital Region by 7%. In other regions there was an increase of overnight stays between years. Overnight stays in the East region increased by 34%, in the West region and the West fjords by 28%, in the North region by 14%, in the South region by 11% and in the Southwest region by 7% compared to December 2009.

The number of overnight stays among foreigners decreased by 8% while there was a increase in overnight stays of Icelanders by 11% compared to the same period last year.

For the year 2010 the number of overnight stays was 1,290,200 which was a decrease by 3% between years.

The number of overnight stays both of foreigners and Icelanders decreased by 3% for the year 2010.

The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
