In May 2013, overnight stays in hotels were 161,300 compared to 139,600 in May 2012. Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 79% of the total number of overnight stays in May and increased by 14% compared with May 2012. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders increased by 21%.

Nights spent in hotels increased by 22%
For the first five months of 2013 the total number of guest nights was 693,400 and increased by 22% compared with 2012. Nights spent by foreign visitors increased by 24% while national guest nights increased by 13%.

The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
