Statistics Iceland has released a new issue of the Statistical Series within the category of Wages, income, and labour market. The issue, Earnings in the private sector 2005, presents results from the Icelandic survey on wages, earnings and labour costs for the economic activities of manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade as well as transport, storage and communications for the year 2005.

Regular monthly salaries in the private sector were 244 thousand ISK on average in 2005, total monthly salaries 315 thousand ISK and annual earnings 4.2 million ISK. Total hours paid, the basis for annual salaries, were 45.7 hours per week on average. Compared with the previous year, regular monthly salaries rose by 10.4%, total monthly salaries by 12.6% and annual earnings by 12.9%.
