Wages increased by 0.15% from the previous quarter
Wages increased by 0.15% on average between the 1st and the 2nd quarter of 2009 according to the quarterly wage index. During the same period wages in the private sector increased by 0.23%, while wages in the public sector decreased by 0.04%. Wages increased by 3.6% from the previous year, 1.2% in the private sector and 9.5% in the public sector.
Manager’s wages decreased by 3.3% from previous year
Wages for General workers increased by 0.5% from the previous quarter, while wages for Craft workers decreased by 0.2%. From the previous year wages for Managers decreased by 3.3% while wages for Clerks increased by 4.4% in the same period.
Wages in Construction decreased from the previous quarter
From the previous quarter, wages increased by 0.5% in the economic activity of Manufacturing. Wages in Construction decreased by 1.1% in the same period. From the previous year wages in Manufacturing increased by 3.4%, while wages in Financial intermediation decreased by 1.3%.

Collective agreements
A decision of the Senior Civil Servant Salary Board No. 2009.3.002, from 10 March 2009 stipulated an average decrease in general wages of judges by 5-15% from 15 March 2009.
An agreement between the Icelandic Association of State University Professors and the Minister of Finance, on behalf of the State Treasury, stipulates a temporary fixed monthly overtime payment from 1 September 2008 to 31 March 2009. The agreement was made in relation to a new legislation of the University of Iceland.
